Many celebrities owned the car including the King Elvis Presley, Fread Astaire, Alain Delon, Prince Ranieri of Monaco, John Surtess (who owned it until his death) and Count Agusta to name some, but despite its "popularity" among the elites it reached only a mere 10% of units sold compared to the 300SL.
Only decades after production ceased it became a very sought after collector car worth milions and Surtess' car in 2018 was sold for around 5 milions including premium.
