Between 1956 and 1959 in just 252 units because of the huge production costs resulted in a financial disaster for the Bavarian manufactured. Vigorously promoted by Max Hoffman, importer of the brand at the time, to fill the gap between the very expensive 300SL and cheaper MG and Triumph.
Powered by a V8 3.2L engine capable of 150HP and top speed of 195+ Km/h (122 mph) was quite a "fun" drive for the late 50s parameters. Many celebrities owned the car including the King Elvis Presley, Fread Astaire, Alain Delon, Prince Ranieri of Monaco, John Surtess (who owned it until his death) and Count Agusta to name some, but despite its "popularity" among the elites it reached only a mere 10% of units sold compared to the 300SL.
Only decades after production ceased it became a very sought after collector car worth milions and Surtess' car in 2018 was sold for around 5 milions including premium.
Not a common car in real life and in slotcar as well.
